Tiger Airways Now Charges for Checked-in Luggage

Tiger Airways Now Charges for Checked-in Luggage

Yowza, budget airline Tiger Airways is now charging extra fees for checked in luggages!
I’ve been watching similar developments in US-based airlines the last several weeks and was hoping the trend wouldn’t reach this part of the sky. Ugh, wishful thinking. Tiger has followed the lead of Air Asia on charging fees for checked in baggages.
Which airline next?

Jetstar Now Flies Between Singapore and Phnom Penh/Siem Reap

Starting July 2008, Jetstar Asia will be offering daily flights between Singapore and Phnom Penh in Cambodia, either with four non-stop flights weekly or via Siem Reap thrice weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
That means you can now fly from Singapore to Siem Reap, stop there for a few days, dive and take a peek into Cambodia’s past (and see where Angelina Jolie’s Tomb Raider was filmed). Then you have the option of either heading back, or flying further to Phnom Penh for more gallivanting.
This makes booking your flight to see more of Southeast Asia just a few clicks easier!

Support Your Charity When You Book Online

Support Your Charity When You Book Online

As a child, whenever I didn’t finish my food or complained on what was for dinner, I’ve always gotten a lengthy lecture on other unfortunate children who had no food to eat. I’m not sure, but I guess this could be one factor why there’s always a part of me that feels guilty whenever I splurge on holidays. I’ve never really been on what may be considered as luxury travel by any stretch and even if I had the money, I don’t think I ever would. I think I will never be able to find a reason to justify …read more

X2 Resorts in Kui Buri and Koh Samui, Thailand

The next time I spend a holiday in the vicinity of these resorts in Thailand, I’d definitely would like to try the X2 Resorts, just to satisfy my curiosity. No, not to check out the resort facilities and amenities, but purely because I’m intrigued by the name: X2 (read as “cross to”).
There’s an X2 in Kui Buri, a 3 hour drive south of Bangkok and half an hour south of Hua Hin. Another is set to open in Koh Samui this month, and yet another in Koh Kood next year.
X2 Kui Buri is currently offering 2 nights free if you …read more

Kid-Friendly Destination: Batam, Indonesia

Kid-Friendly Destination: Batam, Indonesia

Some mommy friends of mine are organizing an overnight trip with kids to Batam, Indonesia. It’s less than an hour’s ferry ride from Singapore and is a popular place for Singapore residents for a weekend away from the city. But I can imagine that even for a tourist or a business traveler, one or two nights on the Indonesian island may be a welcome retreat.
One mom I know has been there before and highly recommended the Purajaya Resort for those traveling with kids. I checked out the room rates (very reasonable) and the facilities (looks really nice on the web …read more

Leonardo DiCaprio Advocates Green Living

Leonardo DiCaprio Advocates Green Living

It’s interesting to read Leonardo DiCaprio being a spokesman for green living, releasing a documentary called “The 11th Hour“. DiCaprio, the star of the film The Beach, if not for which the remote Krabi Island and its neighboring islands in Thailand would largely be undiscovered, left unspoiled, pristine. Nowadays, tourists come in droves, more flights are landing at Krabi Airport, hotels and bungalows are being continuously built to accommodate them.
I wonder how he feels about that.
