Yowza, budget airline Tiger Airways is now charging extra fees for checked in luggages!
I’ve been watching similar developments in US-based airlines the last several weeks and was hoping the trend wouldn’t reach this part of the sky. Ugh, wishful thinking. Tiger has followed the lead of Air Asia on charging fees for checked in baggages.

You’d have to book your travel quickly, though (offer runs until Dec 19, 2007) for travel up to 31 March 2008. Most flights are to/from Singapore.

As with other airlines, the earlier you book, the more likelihood you have of getting better priced airfares. But that is even more true with budget airlines. Singapore-based budget airline Tiger Airlines, for example, offer “Early Bird Fares” all year round.
Book as early as three months in advance and you can find early bird fares for as low as $1.99 one-way (excluding taxes and surcharges), such as those between Singapore and Hat Yai, Krabi (Phi Phi) or Phuket.
Just go to Tiger Airways and check out the airfares and flight availabilities there.
One of the annoying issues with budget airlines is that they normally don’t give seat assignments. You get your boarding pass, but as soon as the boarding announcement is made, people rush into the aircraft to secure their seats, especially those who are travelling in pairs or groups and therefore want to be seated together during the flight.

Starting March 23, 2007, Tiger Airways will fly 4 times a week from Singapore to Perth, Australia. Return fares from Singapore start from only AUD$292.24 (fares range around US$200-230), inclusive of fees and taxes. The flight takes about 4 and a half hours.
