Surrounded by rugged freestanding rock cliffs jutting skyward from the ocean, this tiny island, with its secluded, lush beach backdrop, is so astoundingly beautiful, it was the setting for The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Warm waters, white sand, reliable sunny weather. A lifetime will probably not be enough to explore all the wonderful beaches in Asia. But if you press me to narrow it down to 5, here are the top five beaches, in alphabetical order, which I would like to see and visit in the next few years (not that I have any intention of dying anytime soon):

Despite recurring travel warnings and increasing apprehension about travelling to Indonesia, Bali is still the best island resort in the world. That’s according to US magazine, Travel & Leisure. Additionally, three luxury Bali resort hotels made it to top 10 of the World’s Best Hotels, namely:

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, ranked 2nd
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, ranked 5th
Ritz-Carlton Bali Resort & Spa, ranked 7th
