New Guidelines On Liquids in Hand Luggage
The International Civil Aviation Organization has issued new global security guidelines regarding carrying liquids, gels and aerosols in hand luggages. These guidelines, which are already being observed in Europe, US and some Asian airports, will take effect in most international airports starting on June 1, 2007. Here are the important points to note:
1. Liquids, aerosols, and gels must be placed in a container not over 100 milliliters (or equivalent amount of measure, i.e. ounces). (It doesn’t matter if the container is just half-full, make sure its capacity is not more than 100 ml.)
2. These items must be placed in a …read more

Choose Your Seats on Tiger Airways
One of the annoying issues with budget airlines is that they normally don’t give seat assignments. You get your boarding pass, but as soon as the boarding announcement is made, people rush into the aircraft to secure their seats, especially those who are travelling in pairs or groups and therefore want to be seated together during the flight.
If you want to save yourself such stress, you can now pre-select your seats aboard Tiger Airways. For an additional fee of S$5, you can choose any of the standard seats, or for a higher fee of S$25, you can have an emergency …read more
Philippine Airport Tax Rise
For the longest time, travellers have had to pay $10-11 or PhP550 as airport tax, or “Airport Users Charge” as it is now called, on their way out of the Philippines. On my last trip however, this has risen to $15, or PhP750. Based on the breakdown written on the receipt, the additional 200 pesos apparently are security development charges.
Which I find ironic, because never had I breezed through the Manila airport as easily as this last visit. Gone were at least two check points. Hmm.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Replaces Don Muang Airport in Bangkok
Last week, on Sept 28 precisely, the new Bangkok International Airport, also known as Suvarnabhumi Airport was officially opened, replacing the aging and overloaded Don Muang Airport as Bangkok’s primary airport for all commercial airline flights.
NZ Herald says it’s Asia’s largest airport, but Wikipedia says it’s about 7,000 sq m smaller than Hong Kong International Airport. It’s supposed to have the world’s tallest control tower, though (Is that an asset? Towers and airplanes in the same sentence still gives me the shivers!). Its opening had a bit of birth pains… which is rather expected, I guess. Give it a few …read more
