Of course, the Tubbataha Reefs is not the only Asia nominee for the New 7 Wonders of Nature. In fact, between the Arab region to the Far East Asia and even all the way to Mongolia and the Russian Federation, there are over 50 nominees from Asia, attesting to the myriad of natural bounty Asia is host to.

As I’ve said in my previous post, the next big even here in Asia is the Chinese New Year, which will fall on February 07-08, 2008. I hate to say it, but if you haven’t booked your flights and accommodations yet, it might already be a bit too late for the best deals. Expect hotel rates to be a bit pricier during this period, as it’s considered to be peak season.

Here’s a good primer for those planning on visiting the Philippines, especially those coming from the US. It’s the first of series, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next part.
The Philippines is a less popular destination in comparison to its other Southeast Asian neighbors. Phi Phi Island in Thailand is one of Glam’s picks for the World’s Top 8 Beaches.

Surrounded by rugged freestanding rock cliffs jutting skyward from the ocean, this tiny island, with its secluded, lush beach backdrop, is so astoundingly beautiful, it was the setting for The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Two Asian spots are included in the New 7 Wonders of the World(n7w): The Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal.
The n7w were the results of a global election and were announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007 – 07.07.07.
Next, the organizers are looking for nominations for the new 7 wonders of nature. Any ideas on sites in Asia that may qualify? I was thinking of the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines.
