Chinese New Year 2008

Chinese New Year 2008

As I’ve said in my previous post, the next big even here in Asia is the Chinese New Year, which will fall on February 07-08, 2008. I hate to say it, but if you haven’t booked your flights and accommodations yet, it might already be a bit too late for the best deals. Expect hotel rates to be a bit pricier during this period, as it’s considered to be peak season.
Where to go? You’re bound to witness spectacular CNY-festivities in Hong Kong, China, Macau, and Singapore. On the other hand, I can imagine that a lot of people will use …read more

Southernmost Point of the Asia Continent

Southernmost Point of the Asia Continent

Do you know where the southernmost point of the Asia Continent is?

It’s off Sentosa island in Singapore, on of the most visited tourist attractions in Singapore. The southernmost point is actually a man-made island accessible via this bridge:

Traveling in the Philippines

Traveling in the Philippines

Here’s a good primer for those planning on visiting the Philippines, especially those coming from the US. It’s the first of series, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next part.
The Philippines is a less popular destination in comparison to its other Southeast Asian neighbors. While some hotspots like Boracay, Palawan, Cebu, Davao, and the Banaue region are relatively well-prepared to welcome tourists, other local destinations are out-of-reach to the novice traveler not prepared to go the extra mile to discover hidden gems. Domestic travel can be quite tedious and tiresome, maps are non-applicable in large areas, and if you’re the type …read more

Phi Phi Island, One of the World’s Top Beaches

Phi Phi Island, One of the World’s Top Beaches

Phi Phi Island in Thailand is one of Glam’s picks for the World’s Top 8 Beaches.

Surrounded by rugged freestanding rock cliffs jutting skyward from the ocean, this tiny island, with its secluded, lush beach backdrop, is so astoundingly beautiful, it was the setting for The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Phi Phi Island was also one of the areas most devastated by the Tsunami in 2004, but has since bounced back almost to its former beauty. Phi Phi Island is accessible by ferry from Phuket, Krabi or Koh Lanta (during high season). If you’re flying in via Bangkok, you might want to …read more

Seven Amazing Wonders of Thailand

Seven Amazing Wonders of Thailand

What makes Thailand an amazing destination? The Tourism Authority of Thailand has summarized it in what they call the “Seven Amazing Wonders” of Thailand:

New 7 Wonders of the World

New 7 Wonders of the World

Two Asian spots are included in the New 7 Wonders of the World(n7w): The Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal.
The n7w were the results of a global election and were announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007 – 07.07.07.
Next, the organizers are looking for nominations for the new 7 wonders of nature. Any ideas on sites in Asia that may qualify? I was thinking of the Chocolate Hills of the Philippines.
