Gota Beach in Caramoan: Not Just for Survivors
Until a few weeks ago, Caramoan, Camarines Sur in the Philippines was virtually unknown. But not for long as almost 10 million televiewers watch the French version of reality game show “Survivor”, which was shot on Caramoan’s shores.
According to “Survivor-France” TV director Corinne Vaillant, the powdery sand, the coconuts on Gota beach and the neighboring islets are a “dream” for the French people.
“We chose Caramoan because it’s really wide. It’s necessary that contestants don’t see anything other than nature for them to believe that they’re really lost in the wilds,” Vaillant told the Philippine Daily Inquirer (parent company of INQUIRER.net).
Looking at the Caramoan photos and reading other info from this blog, I can’t believe how the peninsula has remained largely undiscovered by local and foreign tourists. Well, of course, it’s a pain to get there: 500 km from Manila, which means either an 8-hour bus ride, or a 45-minute plane ride to Naga, plus another 3 and half hours or so on the road. And then, of course, there are no hotels, except for some small inns, and a local version of B&B’s.
But I swear, I’ve got to see this place too!
