Lost Luggages

by Ruth on April 12th, 2008

I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the disaster involving unclaimed luggages during the recent opening of the new London Heathrow Terminal 5 airport: more than 20,000 luggages went unclaimed due to a glitch in the computerized luggage system.

The worse part is, some reports say that reuniting these luggages to their owners are complicated by the fact that a large number of them are unidentifiable. No tags, no labels.

Had you been one of those passengers arriving at Terminal 5 during its initial days, and your luggage got lost, do you think it would find its way to you? This can happen anytime, anywhere. Do all your luggages have your name and address on them? Barring technical mishaps, what steps do you think we passengers can take to avoid losing our luggages (barring NOT checking them in, of course)?

Yeah, I learned the lessons about name tags the hard way with one infamous luggage mishap over a decade ago. Now it’s practically impossible to pry the tags off my luggage when I get through with them ;)
