Cellphones on the Plane?

by Ruth on April 3rd, 2008

Passengers may soon be able to use their mobile phones while flying across Europe’s airspace.

Under the plan approved Monday, cell phone users could make and receive calls through an onboard base station. They will be allowed to turn their phones on after the plane reaches 10,000 feet, when other electronic devices such as portable music players and laptops are permitted.

Will this set the trend now and apply top Asian skies as well? Although I can imagine the utility and practicality of being able to use your mobile phones while flying, I think there should be regulations regarding its implementation, particularly for those flying in the economy class, where privacy is almost impossible to attain.

What do you think?
