Using Blogs in Travel Planing

travel planningI don’t know about you but it never fails to get me all giddy and excited after I’ve made the first concrete steps in planning a trip. Sure, just thinking about going somewhere, even surfing around the web for possibilities already gets me hyped up, but when I’ve actually made the first tangible step — a reservation, whether for a plane ticket or accommodation –that’s when the adrenaline starts pumping. And it won’t stop until I’ve set foot on my destination!

And that’s how I’ve felt since I made the flight booking to Bohol 2 days ago. I’m scouring the web for hotel deals, and it is fascinating how much information I was able to glean from travel blogs and travelogues from online diaries or personal blogs. I am sure I am not the only traveler consulting weblogs, and I can see that soon, blogs are really going to revolutionalize the way we plan our holiday travels. Sure, there are travel websites where travelers can submit their hotel reviews and photos, but nothing compares to the kind of stories people tell on their blogs. It’s more personalized, more insightful and sometimes possibly without knowing it, the writers convey a lot more information between the lines than other reviews normally do.

If you have a travel destination in mind and you’d like to read anecdotes and stories from other people who’ve been there, do a blog search using Technorati or Google Blog Search. Although some blog entries would include photos and videos, you can turn to Flick’r and YouTube, respectively, if those are what you’re after.

Have you ever used blog entries to make your holiday plans? How useful do you find blogs in choosing your hotel or planning your itinerary?
