Best Travel Experience of the Year
As the year comes to a close, I reflect on all the traveling and touring and sightseeing I’ve done the past year– be it for real or virtual (online, print, or television)– and I realize that nothing can top the one-way trip we made as a family this year from Europe to Asia.
It has been a big leap, literally and figuratively speaking. We’re still reeling, and it’s definitely not from jetlag. Different climate, different culture, a totally new way of life. Sometimes, we travel to places and think, “I wish I can live here permanently.” But trust me, being in a place as a tourist is an entirely different story to actually living there. And after having lived in three continents, I should know.
I guess the best part in living in another place is getting to know the area more intimately. You discover all the nooks and crannies you’d never have thought of even checking out if you only had 3-5 days to tour around. You get to know the people more, their culture, their habits and it sheds an entirely different light to your experience.
It’s been half a year since we arrived at Changi airport. We’ve discovered much, but we know that there’s more to see and experience. We’d also like to take advantage of the fact that Singapore is an excellent jumping point to plenty of other must-visit places in Asia.
2008 awaits and I’m so excited!
