Mobile Phones for International Travel

by Ruth on October 26th, 2007

Now, I don’t claim to be a techno-geek; to the contrary, I consider myself to be a techno-apathetic. I couldn’t care less what model I have for a mobile phone, as long as it can call, and send/receive sms. I don’t use it that much, and I’m one of those people who sometimes have to use the landline to call their own mobile phones because they have no idea where it was.

Overseas travellers, however, particularly those who travel on business, need much more sophisticated gadgets. You’ll want a phone which you can use not just locally, but also in your country of destination. Apparently, an unlocked quadband GSM phones is your best bet. Here are some of Michelle Delio of Fodor’s top picks for international travelers:

  • National Geographic’s International Travel Phone
  • Blackberry 8800
  • Motorola RAZR2 V8 Black (unlocked)
  • Nokia N95 8GB (unlocked)

The best about these gadgets? The do much much more than just phone calls and send messages. Internet access, camera, radio, videos — definitely a nifty tool for the savvy traveler.

Read more about these travel must-have’s and where you can get the best plans, from the Fodor article.
