Let’s Visit Asia

Worst Airline Service

by Ruth on September 13th, 2007

When it comes to technology, efficiency and promptness, Lufthansa is undeniably a German brand — very reliable. But when it comes to service… what service?!? This word seems to be a foreign word to their cabin staff.

Being Asian and having flown several Asian airlines, I can’t help feel the stark difference. Whereas flight attendants of Asian airlines are young, good looking ladies and gentlemen who would go out of their way to serve you, the passenger, I find Lufthansa cabin staff a tad bit unfriendly, not to mention a bit, er, older (thus, crankier?). And don’t get me started on the food! While you get served well inspired meals in other Asian airlines, guess what we had for a “midnight” snack the last time I flew with LH? Cup noodles! Perhaps I shouldn’t complain much as I got a big slash off my airfare that time, but what about the majority who probably paid full fares? Surely they deserved more than cup noodles?

What about you? Which airline do you consider to have the worst service?

Oh my gosh…I have only flown Lufthansa a few times, but my experiences were so bad that I would definitely rank it as the worst. Grumpy attendants who refused to tell the person in front of me to put his seat upright while we were eating! Ugh. I used to love Thai airlines; it was my favorite. Now, I mostly fly China Airlines and United, both of which are okay but nothing special.

KLM also offers cup noodles or ice cream (strange combi) as midnight snack. BUT, their service is a lot better. Stewardesses are friendlier and more helpful.

Worst Airline Service for me is, like yours, Lufthansa. I think they include HOW TO BE POLITE and HOW TO SMILE in their training manuals.

I have to disagree about Lufthansa. I think it is a great airline. I have only ever had one bad experience on a plane that actually made me cry I was so upset. I don’t even remember the airline, I think I have blocked the experience out :)

Are you saying that all people who are “….a bit, er, older….” are cranky??!!!

Not at all, Lynn, not at all ;) But combine that with the kind of working hours, schedule, type of work and the altitude, and it could very well be a factor, wouldn’t you think?

I was teasing you Ruth! But when you put the question to me, I don’t think age is a factor. I’ve seen young flight attendants cranky and older ones helpful and pleasant, it has nothing to do with age.

I think it may very well have more to do with how long someone is working in that position and if they like their job. Newer employees are more enthusiastic, while those who have been there longer have a more blasé attitude.

Lufthansa! I just overheard this from my doctor’s visit today. an elderly german woman flew that into her country and the airline misplaced her luggage for seven days! ugh.
