Singapore’s National Day Celebrations
For the last few weeks, the whole island has been in a frenzy mode, preparing for the Singapore National Day on August 9. The heart of the celebrations will be at a football field-sized floating platform in Marina Bay. The highlights of the celebrations will include the usual military flypasts, parachute display and gun salute, and a show called PossibiCity. The celebrations will be capped by a fireworks display lasting slightly over three minutes durign one segment of the show.
If you’re visiting Singapore this week, you’ll be hard-put to find a ticket to the stadium, though. Tickets could only be obtained through e-balloting and only citizens and permanent residents were eligible. Oh well, fret not, if you’re really curious, you can simply watch the live webcast on Aug 9 at 6 pm. You can also witness further celebrations across the island til the 26th of the month. For the shopaholics, you’d also be pleased to know that there are also lots of ongoing sales as part of the celebrations.
Happy 42nd birthday, Singapore!
