Public Transportation in the Lion City
Sorry for not posting the last few days. Relocation is a messy affair, indeed. We’ve arrived safe and well in Singapore last week, and we’ve just been busy, busy, busy the last few days. Most of the paperwork are done, though, but we have yet to find a flat. It seems like we’ve arrived at a time when rentals are soaring and it’s proving to be difficult to find something suitable within our set budget. Oh well…
One thing I’ve discovered in the last few days though is how real efficient public transportation here is. It’s very easy to figure out how the MRT and bus lines work, and where those cannot take you, a taxi cab can, and for a reasonable price, too. You can hail a cab anywhere, or may phone in to order one to pick you up at a designated place, in which case you pay an additional S$2 as booking fee. I personally prefer to take the bus and MRT, as I consider the trip as a kind of sightseing in itself, even if it’s more like a peek into the local people’s lives than seeing places, really. But in times when I really have no idea how to reach my destination, it’s nice to know that wherever I may end up, I can always take a cab without burning a hole in my pocket.
