Airfares: Travel Agent or Online?

Airfares: Travel Agent or Online?

On the way to the Philippines, I’ve got the best airfare deal so far on last minute booking. I had a reservation from my travel agent that fell through, so I resorted to booking online at the last minute… and saved myself half the fare! Imagine, Frankfurt-Manila-Frankfurt on Lufthansa for just around 350 euro, inclusive of taxes and charges! That’s almost a third of the published airfare on the Lufthansa website, and would never have made it on the radar of my travel agent specializing on airfares to Asia!
How about you? Where do you get cheaper airfares? Online or travel …read more

Fodor’s presents five Hong Kong six must-see’s for those looking for adventure. In no particular order:

Peak Tram:
Hong Kong’s funicular is the world’s steepest — it climbs to a staggering 1,805 feet above sea level. You really can’t afford to miss what is ultimately a great ride. On the way up, grab a seat on the right-hand side for the best views of the harbor and mountains. The trams, which look like old-fashioned trolley cars, are hauled all the way up by cables — in a mere seven minutes.

Off to Asia, Again

Off to Asia, Again

Like Grace and Maricar of Filipina Soul, I’m off to the Philippines. Like them, I’ll have my kid in tow: a four-year old, who has hopefully gotten used to the idea of long-haul flights (this will be his 4th time to fly this stretch, although we’ve used different airlines and routes in the past).
Unlike Grace and Maricar, however, I have less-than-merry reasons for traveling. I’ll be visiting my Dad, whose health has gotten worse since my last visit. Although I do expect to see Manila, Laguna, and possibly other neighboring provinces like the last time, my time will most …read more
