The Merlion at the Merlion Park Takes a Shower
After about 4 years, the Merlion takes a shower.
Located at the mouth of the Singapore river, among the high-rise buldings of the business district, the Merlion is an icon in Singapore, and probably one of the most photographed. I myself have a few, taken while on a Traditional Bumboat river cruise.
But the Merlion at the Merlion park is up for some cleaning to relieve it of years of grime and stains. And hey, just like you and me, the Merlion is taking a shower in private.
For about five weeks from 5 June to 10 July, visitors expecting to see the Merlion at Merlion Park will be greeted by a cheery cartoon of the Merlion peeping out from a flowery shower curtain instead.
The artist who made the cartoon assures tourists it will still be a great backdrop for photo ops. Think of it this way: it isn’t everyday that you get such an illustration as backdrop! But if you insist on seeing a real Merlion, go on to Sentosa Island, take the Merlion walk and see the 37 meter figure up close.

Hey Ruth,
Thanks for this post… Makes me kinda shy as being a Singaporean myself, I didn’t realize our Merlion just had a shower
Just wondering when it’s going for a long bath…remember to post, OK?
