Asia: Digital Photographers’ Favorite?

Asia: Digital Photographers’ Favorite?

I was browsing through the entries for the Art of Travel category in the Digital Camera Photographer of the Year competition, and I can’t help noticing many (perhaps the majority) of the entries submitted were images of Asia.
People. temples, landscapes.
Vibrant. Dramatic. Wild.
Asia.
Incidentally, the first two placers in the Dramatic Landscapes category were images taken from Asia. the first placer is Richar Larrios shot made in Minadanao, Philippines. Equally breathtaking is Purwanto Nigroho’s lightning shot in Balikpapan, Indonesia.
Go see and cast your votes on your favorites.

New Star Alliance Wing at Narita Airport Now Open

New Star Alliance Wing at Narita Airport Now Open

I hate stop-overs. I know there’s a lot one can do to convert this “dead” time to do something productive, and in this age of technology, there are a lot of gadgets to keep one entertained and help the time pass by. But still, I hate stop-overs. Have I said it before? Well, I do. Especially when flying long distances, I just want to get there as fast as I can.
Lucky are those flying with a Star Alliance carrier stopping at Narita Airport in Tokyo: Beginning June, all Star Alliance carriers will now be stationed at the new South …read more

Japan Loses to Australia 3:1 in the FIFA World Cup

Oh no, with the Australian socceroos scoring 3 goals in 8 minutes, that leaves Japan with very slim chances of getting into the semi-finals. If you missed the game and would like to read a by-the-minute account, read the Deadspin’s live blogging, or at the FIFA World Cup Official page.
So if the mood in Japan, particularly in Tokyo has a tad bit less buzz, you know why.

FinnAir Flies to Nagoya

FinnAir Flies to Nagoya

Seems like European airlines are really bent on bridging the distance to Asia. Last year, FinnAir started to expand their routes to Asia, with the launch of non-stop flights from Helsinki to Guangzou. And then there’s KLM, sweetening the prospect of business flights to China, too, by launching their exclusive entrepreneur club.
And though China’s economy is undeniably on the up and up, thereby drawing loads of visitors for business and pleasure, the other business hubs in Asia are also getting better connected to the rest of the world.
FinnAir just added Nagoya, Japan to its network, making it FinnAir’s third …read more

The Merlion at the Merlion Park Takes a Shower

The Merlion at the Merlion Park Takes a Shower

After about 4 years, the Merlion takes a shower.
Located at the mouth of the Singapore river, among the high-rise buldings of the business district, the Merlion is an icon in Singapore, and probably one of the most photographed. I myself have a few, taken while on a Traditional Bumboat river cruise.
But the Merlion at the Merlion park is up for some cleaning to relieve it of years of grime and stains. And hey, just like you and me, the Merlion is taking a shower in private.
For about five weeks from 5 June to 10 July, visitors expecting …read more
