Exploring Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a small island packed with big surprises. Along with Maldives, tourism in this South Asian jewel suffered a lot after the 2004 Tsunami. I can understand if you’re one of the many who are still put off Asia because of that, but there’s a lot more to do and see in Sri Lanka other than the coastal areas.
Instead of staying just along the coast, venture inland and explore its rolling hills and forest reserves. See the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. Discover Sri Lanka’s rich history and culture and make sure to visit some of the cities, temples and fortresses declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. If adventure is your game, take your pick from options ranging from mountain biking to safari, to white water rafting and paragliding.
White Water Rafting is too rough? Opt for canoeing and kayaking instead. Or head to the seas and do some wind surfing. Want to have a bird’s eyeview instead? Try an air balloon ride!
The jungle also offers a lot of activities: from biking, trekking and hiking, to camping and rock climbing, you better get your adventure gear all packed!
Indeed there is not a shortage of activities on this island. If you don’t have the energy or time, take a preview and get on a scenic flight courtes of Sri Lankan Air Taxi. You can also take the amphibious aircrafts to hop from one city to another in Sri Lanka instead of travelling by road and save time.
