Let\’s Visit Asia

Cherry Blossom Festivals, Spring, and Allergies

by Ruth on April 18th, 2006

Finally, after a long wait, spring seems to have found its way to my part of the globe. A few days of warmer temperature and a full dose of sunshine were all it took for the trees and bushes to spring to life and burst with color. Forsythia, narcissus, apple, and cherry trees all abloom!

Oh yeah. Cherry. And that reminds me:I just missed posting about Japan’s National Cherry Blossom Festival! Arrgh! Good thing Southwest Airlines is still running a coverage of the parade until the end of the month.

Of course, with or without the parade, the cherry blossoms are a sight to behold. Definitely worth a visit. But if you can’t, the Flyaway Weblog notes of two other Cherry Blossom Festivals you can go to, without having to travel all those miles:

2006 Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival. Attend the activities on the 29th of April at the Memorial Park on Stevens Creek Boulevard in Cupertino, California, the sister city of Toyokawa Japan.

Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival). “With over 200 trees in bloom, Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s flowering cherries take center stage during this phenomenal weekend celebrating Japanese culture.” Participate in the festivites from the 29th until the 30th of April in New York.

If you have pollen allergies, take heart, you don’t have to miss out on this celebration of life. Take a peek at the Allergizer Weblog and maybe you can pick up some tips on coping with allergic rhinitis.

Enjoy!
