South Korea: Most Westernized of Asian Nations?
I just encountered a general article about travelling in Asia which, although it didn’t have much new information, intrigued me. It claimed that South Korea is “one of the most westernized of all Asian nations”.
Well, I’ve never been to South Korea myself, but I would never have thought so. In terms of infrastructure, I would have thought Hongkong would be the most westernized. In terms of culture, I would say the Philippines would be the one with most western influence.
Have you been to South Korea? What do you think?

I live in South Korea and never really though of it as Westernized. In terms of tourist infrastructure, it’s not far behind Japan and Hong Kong.

That’s what I would have thought too, James. Hm, weird article, that was.

I’ve visited South Korea. In some ways I felt Japan–which I’d been in 20 years ago–was more “western.” Except for maybe in religion. It’s weird flying into Seoul at night and seeing all the crosses lit up. As far as visitng the two, I enjoyed Korea more.
