Luxury Travel in Cambodia
While Cambodia certainly still tops as a destination for backpackers and no-frill travellers, those who are not ready to part with plush beds, and are used to drinking champagne while in bath and being driven around in chaffeured limousines (or even helicopters!) will not be disappointed. Oh yes, Cambodia can match your opulent lifestyle, if you can shell out the $400 a day to hire a BMW L7 or $1,375 an hour for a helicopter tour.
While backpackers still abound, Cambodia is now host to a different class of tourists, and has all the amenities to accommodate the high-maintenance crowd:
The Grand (Raffles Hotel) has been joined by a Sofitel, Le Meridien and the Sokha Angkor. On the boutique side, Angkor Village must now contend with la Paix, La RĂ©sidence d’Angkor, the FCC Angkor, the Shinta Mani and an Aman resort, the Amansara. By the end of this month, the One Hotel plans to open its doors - or, rather, its door: There’s just one room, a duplex with flat-screen TV, iBook, Wi-Fi and a whirlpool.
The nightly rates for these may range from $200 up to as much as $1,900. Not exactly your shoestring budget, eh?
