Asian Package Tours: Himalayas
When I hear the words “package tours”, I break into hives. There’s something about it that brings images of buses of tourists being led like a herd of sheep, going on a marathon sight-seeing trip. Hop on the bus. Sit. Get off the bus. Look around. Take pictures. And then do it all over again, with at least 20 others. Not for me, thank you. Ask me again in aboout 30 years. Maybe then.
But the United States Tour Operators Association promises that it could be something different. Here’s what they offer for the Asia-bound:
Travel to Tibet or take a tour visiting the fabled Silk Road. Visit the Himalayas, learning about Buddhism and Tibetology, journeying back in time to a place still slowly waking up to the present.
Rugged adventure seekers can travel in a small group of 12 to 16 guests, seeing Tibet, Mongolia, and Bhutan and spending nights in traditional ger camps as they follow in the Footsteps of the Khans, crossing Mongolia`s sweeping steppes and desert plains. Sample a Wildlife Safari in India, exploring the extraordinary Keoladeo Bird Sanctuary in addition to three other reserves where the legendary Bengal tiger can be found.
O-kaaay, if you put it like that. That’s definitely something different from the traditional tour packages. Strikes your fancy, too? Check out USTOA directory of accredited Asian tour providers.
