Tsunami Alert in Japan Following Earthquake
An earthquake with a magnitude 6.9 struck Japan at 7:38 a.m. (9:48 p.m. Monday GMT) off the east coast of the Honshu, the center being about 330 miles (530 kilometers) east-northeast of Tokyo and about 11 miles (18 kilometers) deep.
Although no major damages nor injuries have been reported, a tsunami warning has been issued for the northeastern Japanese coast, with waves up 30 to 50 cm (12 to 20 inches) above normal.
