Bali: Land of the Gods No More?
I’ve always been fascinated about the photos I see of Bali on travel books and magazines. And though I get warnings that Bali is to Australians what Mallorca is to Germans, Bali remains on my wishlist of places to see in Asia.
Until I come across Indcoup’s rantings:
The problem you see is that the monstrous mass-market tourism industry is slowly but surely taking its inevitable toll on this once pristine island. South Bali is in particularly bad shape, especially Kuta and its surrounds, which has now become a right-rotten shithole.
He continues to enumerate the problems Bali is plagued with: filth, harassment from hawkers, drug trafficking, cheating and scams, and utter apathy to environmental concerns. Somehting has definitely to change if Bali is to save itself from being a victim of tourism.
