Insider Guide to Golf Courses in Asia

Insider Guide to Golf Courses in Asia

I’ve neer been a golf enthusiast, but I’ve found a website which might interest those of you who are. The GolfAsia.com provides course reviews on golf courses in Brunei, Hongkong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. For example, you can read Andrew Ng’s review of the Loch Palm Golf Course in Phuket, complete with photos. The terms are way over my head, but the beauty in this, I can understand:
Sandwiched between the Katu Waterfalls and Katu Village this magnificent property lies beneath the surrounding panoramic peaks. The course surrounds the Crystal Lake spread over 48 acres, the largest of all …read more

Driving In Asia

Driving In Asia

If you’re a first time traveller in Asia, I would suggest to use the public transportation, or for a bit of privacy and more comfort, take the cab. Even cabs won’t burn holes in your pocket even in metropoles such as in Singapore. But if you’re insistent on taking the adventurous route, well, go ahead and rent a car, but be sure you’ve got a comprehensive auto insurance, and are absolutely sure you know the driving rules in the place where you’re headed. At the very least, check whether people drive on the right or wrong …er… I mean, left …read more

Living (and Lovin’) in Hangzhou

Living (and Lovin’) in Hangzhou

I have been browsing Asian blogs for more stories I can pick and share with you, and came across the Middle Kingdom Stories (which I’ve also added to the blogroll). There’s one entry which struck a chord, being an Asian married to a Westerner, myself. Although Philippine culture seems to be a bit more relaxed and less structured that that of the Chinese (of course I’m biased, need you ask?), I find it heartwarming and, well, cute, when east meets west, in the name of love. Yeah, I’m a hopeless romantic, I know! And I’m digressing…

Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels: Openings, Closings, Renovations

Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels: Openings, Closings, Renovations

I just got my newsletter from asia-hotels.com urging visitors to the region this autumn to book their hotels early. Apparently, there has been a lot of changes going on in Hongkong and Shanghai hotels, partly attributed to the opening of Hongkong Disneyland. I would like to share this snippet:

In Hong Kong, the Mandarin closes its doors for a long-awaited refurbishment in December. Next-door, The Landmark, a boutique-style Mandarin will open in September. The iconic 396-room Four Seasons, sitting on the IFC site in Central and with stunning views over Victoria Harbour, will open around the same time. At the other …read more

10 Noteworthy Hongkong Food Stops

10 Noteworthy Hongkong Food Stops

Saint Peppers lists some dining places worth checking out next time you’re in Hongkong. Number 5 on his list is the Felix at The Peninsula:
…somehow they make really good G and T’s and you can load up on free bar chow at designer prices, but it’s really pissing in Philippe Starck toilets that makes it priceless…

SriLankan Holidays and Stopovers

There are also the tours and packages under the SriLankan Exotica range: ayurveda holidays, archaeology …read more

A Different Bento Box

A Different Bento Box

This Panda Bento Box is one of the cutest, unorthodox kiddie lunchboxes I’ve ever seen! I just wish I can read Japanese to know what’s what. On the other hand, not knowing what I’m eating never prevented me from savouring sushi and company!

Himalayan High in Kingdom of Bhutan

Himalayan High in Kingdom of Bhutan

The Vancouver Sun ran a travelogue a few days ago on the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. It’s an interesting description, offering possibly another means to reach the world’s highest peak. An excerpt reads:
You may be a bit breathless as you approach the terminal — Paro is at an elevation of 2,285 metres. Leaving the airport, you’ll be met by your guide, who will be wearing the Bhutan national dress of a gho (gownlike garment hiked up above the knees like a kilt) for men, or a kira (long, floor-length dress) for women.

Green Tea Treament at The Bale

Green Tea Treament at The Bale

As a beverage, I never liked green tea. But I am not one to turn my nose up at its acclaimed health beneficial properties. Valued for its antioxidant properties, green tea has been proclaimed to cure anything– from acne to cancer. I can’t help be a bit skeptical, if not downright suspicious, especially as it takes the form of products such as “Green tea body mask”, “Warm green tea bath”, and “Green tea and honey moisturizing cream”. But if you’re one to try such things, then go ahead to Bale and try the Green Tea Ttreatment at the Spa. If …read more
