Daydreaming of the Maldives

Daydreaming of the Maldives

Image from: Soneva Gili
As usual, in my daydreaming moments, I found myself browsing on the web for wonderful destinations in Asia and I ended up at the Soneva Gili Resort and Six Senses Spa. See, one of the places in Asia I have been lusting after for a long time now is the Maldives. But the photos in this particular resort are just soooo inviting. As with other resorts in the Maldives, you’ll see turquoise waters, wide sugary white sand beaches.
The photo on the left, referred to as the Soneva Gili Crusoe Residence, is a 250 sq meter stand-alone …read more

A powerful typhoon disrupted air traffic and oil shipments in Japan on Thursday as it churned northward over the Pacific Ocean, heading toward the nation’s capital.
The storm, with winds up to 144 kilometers per hour (89 mph), was expected to land in the Tokyo area Thursday evening, Japan’s Meteorological Agency said.

Travel Philantrophy in Asia

One of the trips featured is that organized by Mountain Travel Sobek.
Besides doing what we can in the field in order to preserve and sustain the world’s unique cultures and delicate environments, we are proud to support a number of worthy organizations that, day after day, contribute to the betterment of societies …read more

Tokyo to Los Angeles in Four Hours?

Tokyo to Los Angeles in Four Hours?

If the $10 million protocol for Japan’s successor to the Concorde will succeed, it may cut travel time from Los angeles to Tokyo into a span of just about four hours. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will launch the experimental craft, designed to zoom at twice the speed of sound, at Australia’s Woomera test range between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15. Japan hopes to introduce regular flights by 2020. See CNN report here.
Naturally, the prospect is tempting. Imagine the time you save and can use to do other fruitful endeavors, instead of being cooped in transit. But if the …read more

Fear of Flying

Fear of Flying

No matter how many times I’ve flown, I still get anxiety attack during the plane’s take-off and landings. Seemingly out of my control, my mind plays pictures of exploding aircrafts before my eyes. People rushing to emergency exits, colliding planes, and smoke blowing from the rear end of the plane reeling downwards as it crashes. Fortunately, these horrific scenes last only the few minutes it takes the plane to reach its designated height or to halt into place at its terminal.
Not all are lucky. I know of people who suffer such panic attacks the whole duration of the flight. What …read more
