Banyan Tree in Tibet, China

by Ruth on July 7th, 2005

In a previous entry, I’ve written about the Mt. Everest and the mountain trekking tours. But what if you’re like me, who’d like to see Tibet, without actually doing the hike? Oh-la-la, scrape together every penny you have, because I’ve discovered a luxurious way of enjoying and immersing in the Tibetan millieu! Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, a popular chain in the Maldives and Seychelles, among others, will open its new resort in China’s magnificent Yunnan province bordering Tibet. The Banyan Tree Ringha is set against the backdrop of the enchanting Temple of the Five Wisdom Buddhas and faces the spectacular Ringha River.

Mr. Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Group was struck by the rustic charm of the Tibetan lifestyle and the breathtaking landscape when he first visited Ringha. He said,

“This unexplored region, with its majestic peaks, eco-diversity and rich culture, is a dream destination that has only been explored by a handful of travelers. By choosing Shangri-la as our first Banyan Tree property in China, we continue to epitomise the spirit of travel, adventure and romance that our discerning guests expect from the brand.”

Expected to open on 1 September 2005, the room rates start from US$500 for the Tibetan Suites and US$700 for Tibetan Lodges. Oh dear!
